

Jose "Joe" Perez was born in 1933 in Bishop, Texas. He passed into the loving arms of the Lord on December 31, 2009 at North Austin Medical Center. Joe attended elementary school and junior high in Robstown, Texas. He graduated from San Jacinto High School in June 1954. Joe served in the U.S. Army from December 1954 to March 1957 receiving an Honorable Discharge. He also served in inactive reserves until 1962. Afterward he attended the University of Houston for 2 ½ years majoring in accounting. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brouillette of Briarcliff; three children, Ninfa Frausto of Channelview; Omar and his wife Katharine of Houston; and Ruben of Channelview; four grandchildren Marcella "Marci" Wehrhahn and her fiancé Eric Vasquez of Katy; Hannah Perez of Houston; Nathaniel Purser and Mateo Perez of Houston. He was preceded in death by his son Armando, and his parents Crecencio and Barbara Ramon Perez. Joe began working as a Union Representative in August 1959, in Houston, and traveled to many states to conduct business. He managed the Houston office and the finances until 1989. He was then transferred to the New Orleans, Louisiana office to serve as Port Agent. He staffed all contracted ships and tugboats on the waterfronts of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. He was elected to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the Greater New Orleans Port Council. Joe served in both capacities until he retired in April 1998. Joe was a communicant of Queen of Angels Chapel in Siesta Shores and active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society until his passing. He was a valuable member because Joe was bilingual, and served as interpreter for the Spanish-speaking clients. He became an hourly captain during the formation of the Adoration Chapel at Emmaus Catholic Parish. He was a Eucharistic Minister and an Usher at Queen of Angels. The family would like to thank North Austin Medical Center, especially Dr. Robert Emerson, Dr. Jose Mejia, Dr. Dominic deKeratry, Dr. Imtiaz Alam, Dr. Richard Debehnke, and all the nurses, therapists in ICU and the Pulmonary, Cardiac Unit and Hospice Austin for their loving care of Joe.
