Josefa C Montemayor

Josefa married Willie Montemayor, on July 21, 1957, and had 47 wonderful years together. They enjoyed serving their community as educators in the rural area they grew up in.

Josefa “Fita” Montemayor (affectionately known as Grami) was a teacher for 37 years for San Benito ISD. She received her Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin University. She had a passion for teaching and loved watching each child grow.

Grami is known for her meek and quiet spirit. Those who know her will say that they never heard a cross word from her and never saw her get angry. She had the most lovely disposition and her loving spirit is greatly missed. She had an amazing green thumb, was an incredible cook, an excellent seamstress, and the queen of hospitality. Her hobbies included bird watching, shell hunting, and card making. She loved traveling with her family and some of the favorite places she visited included: Lake Tahoe, Glacier National Park, Cancun, Grand Canyon, Garden of the Gods, and the Amish Country. Even though she never learned to drive, her letters traveled far and wide. She loved writing letters of encouragement and making special cards for people.

At the age of 42, she met Jesus. Becoming a follower of Christ completely changed her life. Grami loved reading and studying His word. She lived a life of prayer, loved people fiercely, and gave to all generously. She leaves behind a testimony of “fighting the good fight, running the race and keeping the faith”. A crown of righteousness awaits her.

Grami is survived by her four children, Letty and husband Kelly, Willie and wife Laura, Ben, and Christy, granddaughters, Jordan and husband Eric, Brittany, Lexa and husband Chris, and Kassi, and great-grandchildren, Bobby, Abby, Baker, Addy, Gavin, and her favorite grandcat Roxy.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 6:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Dr, Austin, TX 78731.
