Joseph C. Kennedy Joseph C. Kennedy went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at the age of 87. Joe was born on August 8, 1917, in Hayden, Arizona. He was raised in Dublin, Texas, where he met his wife, Hazle Rouleau, to whom he was married for 54 years. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and made Austin his home after graduating from The University of Texas at Austin. After working several years on the U.T. Austin campus, Joe was appointed the first Director of Human Resources for The University of Texas System. He was instrumental in designing many of the benefit programs still available to employees of the System, eventually retiring after 40 years of service. Joe bled burnt orange. He loved attending the UT football games and coordinating the tailgate parties for his assisted living home. Joe will be remembered as an optimistic, giving man, full of enthusiasm and a zest for life. He deeply loved his family and friends, and invested himself in relationships and spreading joy to others. Until his death, Joe lived life to the fullest and stayed very active - playing golf, traveling, playing bridge, and always continuing to learn. Most importantly, Joe loved God and was committed in his faith. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Austin for over 50 years and loved serving as one of its greeters. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Hazle, and by his granddaughter, Shannon Kennedy. Joe is survived by his sons and their wives, Larry and Karan Kennedy of Americus, Georgia, and Kerry and Brenda Kennedy of San Antonio, Texas, by his grandchildren, Lynnae, Patrick, and Brian Kennedy, by his sisters and their husbands, Walter and Dorothy Krause, Volney and Virginia McKay, and Rubye Davidson, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by his beloved friend Arline Oatman. The family will receive friends at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, on Friday, August 20, from 6:00 to 8:00PM. Joes memorial celebration service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1201 Lavaca Street, at 10:00AM on Saturday, August 21. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive. Honoring Joe as pallbearers will be Artie Blevins, Chesley Blevins, Mike Boswell, Joe Himelick, David McKay, and Don McKay.
