

Joseph Anthony Thomas Potvin of Austin, Texas, passed on to eternal life on July 7, 2006. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana on November 23, 1948, the son of Agnes Margaret Walsh Potvin and Joseph Antoine Potvin. He was a loving partner and friend, devoted son, and beloved brother. Joe was an avid gardener and naturalist. He loved to travel especially riding horses in the Waipahu Valley of Hawaii, finding Blue-footed Boobies in the Galapagos Islands, and most recently in March 2006 seeing the splendors of glaciers in New Zealand. Joe had a passion for snow skiing, swimming, hiking, gardening, art, and cooking. Of all things that Joseph would like to be known for is his deep love for the animals of the Earth. He provided daily care for birds, deer, and squirrels. Joseph joined the United States Air Force at the age of 22 and served as a Staff Sergeant. After service, he attended Stonehill College in Massachusetts, earning his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1970. The career history of Joseph was primarily spent in executive leadership. He most recently served as President/CEO for Platron Manufacturing and Plating since 2004. Prior to this, Joseph was President/CEO of Semicon Precision Industries, Inc, 20002003; and Vice President/General Manager of CDS Leopold, 19851998. Joseph was diagnosed with an aggressive Glioblastoma brain tumor in December 2005. Joseph is survived by his partner of 12 years, Kenneth William Heydrick; his sister Mary Helen Capenegro of New Jersey; and 7 dogs and 5 cats. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at St. Martins Lutheran Church, 606 W. 15th Street, Austin. Final interment will be in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo, Indiana. We give thanks to the staff of the Christopher House, especially Dr. Sara Smiley and nurse Geri Cannon.
