Dr. Joseph Everett West III, 73, physician and resident of Scottsdale, Arizona died March 5, 2021 in Austin, Texas. Joe was born October 19, 1947 in Houston, Texas the eldest son of Joseph E. West Jr. and Marian Carlin West. After graduating as a founding alumnus and dedicated “Man for Others” from Strake Jesuit High School in 1965, Joe proceeded to University of Texas at Austin. There, Joe swam backstroke for 4 years, graduating as a proud UT letterman in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at Baylor University College of Medicine and held office as student body president. He graduated medical school in 1974 and became a successful and dedicated urologist, spending much of his career maintaining a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona and spending his free time swimming. Even after closing his practice, Dr. West continued his career as a locum tenens physician across Texas, Indiana, Wisconsin, and South Dakota. His passion for medicine endured until the day of his passing and was only matched by his dedication to his Catholic faith, love for his three children and UT sports. Joe is survived by his 3 children: Joey West, Katie West, and Cindy West, his 3 grandsons, siblings Patty Thomas, James West, Mary Takas, Margie West, Kate West Wiedman and nieces and nephew. He is at rest in Austin, Texas and joins previously deceased father Joseph West Jr 1968, mother Marian West 1986, and brother Robert West, 2013.
