Born May 25, 1947, in Houston, Texas, she was the cherished daughter of the late Salvador and Guadalupe Valle. She grew up alongside her siblings, Margaret, Augustine, Salvador Jr., and Bobby, and graduated from Milby High School in Houston.
In 1970, she married her sweetheart, Tony Rodriguez, after meeting him on a blind date. The couple made their home in Houston before settling in Austin in 1976. They raised three children—Michael, Daniel, and Stephanie—and together they were blessed with seven grandchildren: Edward, Alex, Madison, Jason, Angel, Dallas, and Katelyn.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tony, and her brothers Bobby and Augustine. She is survived by her siblings Margaret and Salvador Jr., her children and grandchildren, and countless dear friends.
For 25 years, Josie devotedly served the students and staff at Bedichek Middle School, where she formed deep and lasting friendships. A true nurturer, she spent countless hours on her back patio tending to her beloved plants and gardens—earning well-deserved recognition for her “green thumb.” She also delighted in caring for the birds she loved, patiently watching them frolic in her birdbaths.
Josie expressed her love most clearly through her cooking and baking: from her celebrated banana bread and cookies to her enchiladas and Thanksgiving dressing. She was also passionate about her crafts—especially cross-stitching—and treasured her collection of Precious Moments figurines. Known affectionately as “Fina,” her warm hugs and generous spirit were gifts to all who knew her. A woman of deep faith, Josie found strength and comfort in God throughout her life.
For the past seven and a half years, Josie faced Alzheimer’s and dementia with unwavering courage and grace. The family extends profound gratitude to friends, neighbors, and caregivers for their kindness and support during this journey.
Josie’s legacy—through love, faith, family, friendship, and the simple joys she nurtured—will continue to blossom in the hearts of all who were touched by her gentle soul.
