Joyce Smith Russell passed away May 19, 2012 at her home in Lago Vista. She was 68 years old. She retired from the Texas Education Agency in August of last year. She was preceded in death by her partner of 25 years, Gary W. Smith in July of 2011.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Autumn Hendrickson, of Pflugerville, and a brother, Jerry Smith, of Hallsville, Texas.
A graveside service will be conducted at a later date at Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas where she will be with her late husband.
Services are under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests memorials be made to the Cocker Spaniel Rescue-Austin, PO Box 27453, Austin, Texas 78755 in Joyce’s name.
