Juanita “Nita” Seaback Campise of Austin, Texas and formerly of Houston, Texas, passed away on Friday, the 30th of July 2010 with her family by her side. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, she now rests in the arms of our Lord in peace and free of pain.
Nita was born on the 14th of February 1928 to the late George Seaback and Alma Macey Seaback. Her daughters and their husbands, Carole and Stephen Pearce of Austin, Texas and Jeanne and Harvey Harrison of Westlake Village, California, survive her. “Nanny” is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Jonathan, Taylor and Lauren Pearce and David and Rebecca Harrison. Nita has one sister that survives her, Helen Seaback Jones, and many nieces and nephews. Her precious daughter, Catherine Campise, her parents, brothers Monroe and Harry Seaback, and sisters Madaline Harris, Barbara Madden, and Aline Sikes, precede her in death.
As a proud graduate of Jefferson Davis High School, class of ‘45, Nita has remained friends with many of her classmates. During her years in Houston, she was a successful real estate broker with Lobue and Company, and a member of the Houston Board of Realtors. Until her retirement, she practiced with her dear friend, Glenna Reeves, as an independent broker. She especially liked working with young couples and their families, looking for their first homes.
Nita had a big personality and was passionate about many things. First and foremost, she was passionate about family and friends. She never missed a holiday, birthday, graduation, or activity that her grandchildren participated in. At ballgames, she was often heard loudly to exclaim, “That’s my grandchild.” She was passionate about all kinds of sports: The University of Texas athletics, golf, the Oilers and her beloved Astros. She was especially passionate about fishing, and spent many enjoyable hours on her sister Aline’s pier in Texas City. She was passionate about cooking and everyone will sorely miss her spaghetti and meatballs and Syrian bread.
Nita never met a stranger. One instantly felt loved and cared for in her presence. A character of the greatest magnitude, Nita was “one in a million” and she will be greatly missed.
Our hearts are filled with love and appreciation for Nita’s doctor, Demetrius Loukas and his staff at Texas Oncology. The family would also like to thank their Austin friends for loving on their mother these past two years.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of Nita’s life on Monday, the 9th of August, at 10 a.m. to be held graveside at Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 North Main Street, Houston, TX 77009. A reception will be held immediately following the service, to be announced at the conclusion of Monday’s service. In lieu of customary remembrances, Nita would be delighted for donations in her name to be directed to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, at 5555 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, TX 77030.
