

Judy was born on June 27th, 1936 in Tyler, Texas to Miriam Mildred (Bivins) Barron & Elmer Elwood Barron. They later moved to Austin, Texas where Judy graduated from Austin High School. Immediately following graduation, Judy boarded a train to Chincoteague, Virginia to marry her high school sweetheart, Calvin Lee Cardwell, who had recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy. From this union two sons were born, David Glen Cardwell & Steven Barron Cardwell. After the Navy, they lived briefly in Houston, Texas before returning permanently to Austin, Texas. Judy had a very successful career at the Internal Revenue Service retiring after 30 years of service as a Management & Program Analyst in 1996. Tragically, Calvin was killed in a motorcycle accident on February 27, 1994. In 1996, Judy met the second love of her life William (Bill) McDougald while taking square dancing lessons. He has been her loving partner ever since. Judy was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Austin.
Judy was dearly loved by her partner of 25 years, William (Bill) McDougald & her sons, David Cardwell & wife Cindi Tovar-Cardwell and Steven Cardwell & wife Pamela Cardwell. Judy is also survived by three grandchildren, Michael Cardwell & wife Megan Cardwell, Rachel Cardwell & fiancé William (Will) Steiner, and Nicole Tovar Leonard & husband Jonathan Leonard. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Addison & Meredith Cardwell and Stella Leonard. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth (Liz) Loep of Houston, Texas, brother-in-law Joy Meyer of Round Rock, Texas and numerous nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Calvin Lee Cardwell, her sister Virginia (Jenny) Meyer, her brother-in-law Dan Loep, & her nephew Wade Loep.
Judy will be greatly missed by all that loved her. Go in peace Mom, your suffering is over. Our family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Hospice of Austin for their care of Judy. Special thanks to nurse Erin Bakay and personal care assistant Imelda Salazar for their loving care.
Graveside services will be held at Cook Walden Forrest Oaks Cemetery with a date yet to be determined.
