
Born 10/9/39 in Granite City, IL, to Homer Ernest Stainton and Katherine May Braden Stainton thirty minutes after her twin brother, Homer Ernest Stainton Jr. Graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, TX in 1957 and from the University of Texas in Austin in 1962 with a BS in Medical Technology. Member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Worked in Dallas until marriage to Arturo D. Torres in 1964. Sons: Ricardo Daniel Torres, David Alejandro Torres, and Jaime Antonio Torres. Lived in Latin America for 8 years, NYC, McAllen, TX for 12 years, and Plano, TX for 7 years. Married to Richard C. Murtland in 1991 and lived in CA, NC, and the Dallas area until his death in 2002. Married to Jerry L. King in 2004 and they made their home in Austin.
Active in West Plano Presbyterian Church as an elder and Sunday school teacher and in Central Presbyterian Church in Austin as a deacon, with vacation bible school, and on the worship and music team. Her favorite thing was to spend time with family and friends. She also loved to read, cook, travel, and do yoga.
Preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Ernie, second mother Ruth Goodfellow Stainton, husband Dick, brother Curt Goodfellow, step-great-grandson Brady Erickson, and son David Torres.
Survived by her husband Jerry King, sister Sandy Goodfellow Rice (Henry), and sister-in-law Paulina Goodfellow; her McAllen family: sons Dan Torres and Jaime Torres, grandchildren Michael, Natalia, Julian and Alexa, sister-in-law Fran Alger, several nieces and nephews, and ex-husband Tito Torres. Also, her Austin stepfamily: daughters Kelli Carr (Stuart) and Shannon King; grandchildren Tyler New (Amanda), Cody Carr (Holly), Callie Speed (Ross), Harrison Carr (Liza), and Kendall Carr. Great-granddaughters Ellie and Zoey Speed.
