On June 20, 2023, our mother, Julia Ann Kyle Totten, 94, of Austin, Texas moved gracefully from this world to the next. She was at home and at peace, with members of her family close by, to wish her a safe journey.
Julie was born on February 9, 1929, in Sherman, Texas, into a large family that would eventually grow to ten siblings. She was married for fifty-four years to Jess Ranson Totten, who died in 2004. They raised their four sons in towns and cities across the United States and in England and Germany. As a family they had many adventures together, including skiing in the Alps and traveling through Europe. In 1976, Julia and Jess moved to Austin where Julie lived for the rest of her life. Julie is survived by her four sons and their wives, Jess and Gail, Joe and Morag, John and Jeanine, and Bill and Jackie; as well as ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a large loving, extended family.
Family, friends, and neighbors were always at the heart of her life, and she loved hosting dinners and family gatherings at her home. We remember her for the strength of her love, the constancy of her support and for living a good, compassionate life. Our Mother was the warm sun around whom our large family revolved. Her passing leaves a massive void in our lives. We will miss her.
A memorial service for Julia will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at University United Methodist Church, 2409 Guadalupe St., Austin, Texas.
