Julian had many careers and interests over his long life although he was always a carpenter at heart. During World War II, he was a foreman laying tracks for the Southern Pacific Railroad from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to the Sierra Nevadas in California. Then, he moved his young family to Los Angeles, California. Twenty years later, they moved to Laredo, Texas, and opened several stores in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, that catered to tourists as well as a furniture manufacturing operation that specialized in beautiful hand-carved furniture.
During more than 70 years of marriage, Julian and Consuelo (Connie) Puentes Angón enjoyed dancing, music and travel throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada. In addition, Julian was an avid athlete as a boxer and racquetball player. In fact, he won championships for racquetball at his athletic club in 1982 and 1983.
He is survived by his wife Consuelo; his two sons and their wives, Alfredo and Rosa Angón and Javier and Lynne Lightsey Angón; three grandsons, Eric Jason, Julian Alfredo and his wife Jamie, and Raul Javier and two granddaughters, Roxanne Yvette and her husband David Arneson and Christina Marie Figueroa; five great grandchildren, Emma Joy Consuelo, Anna Rae Tamar, Julian James, Jonathan Jason, and Raul Javier Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved children Rosalba Angón Figueroa, Yolanda Angón and a son who died at birth.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, February 22, 2019, at St. Louis, King of France Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas, with a reception following at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas.
The family would like to thank the staff of CIMA Hospice for their kind and loving care for Julian and the family, particularly that of the chaplain, Rev. Dr. Luis-Carlos Sanchez.
