June M. Watters, 78, passed away on December 1, 2024, in her home in Austin, Texas. She was born November 12, 1946, in Longmont, Colorado to William and Thelma Friend. She graduated from Longmont Senior High School in 1965 where she played in the percussion section of their award-winning band before going on to sing in the Billy Graham Crusade Choir. As a young woman she joined Job Corps where she gained her CNA certification and went on to work in a hospital in Iowa before getting married. June was known by her family for being stubborn to the core, once she made up her mind there was no way anyone would change it; but she was also compassionate and caring to a fault and would put anyone she loved above herself. Ever the pragmatist June was always there with a big warm hug, quiet smile and firm talking to. She was a strong matriarch who will be missed more than she could ever know.
June was preceded in death by her parents William and Thelma Friend, her sister Carolyn Christopher, son Jimmy Lee Watters and grandson Michael G. Cole III. She is survived by her sister Jan Friend of Arvada, CO, William Raymond Friend of Florida, daughters Leona Henson of Park City, KY, Samantha Boutwell and Brenda Cole of Austin, TX as well as her sons John Watters of Denver, CO and Donny Watters of Orangeville, UT and her grandchildren Alyssa Papke, Tamara Papke and Nicole Boutwell of Austin, TX and Jace Wilkins of Tooele, UT and great grandchildren Emma Papke, Nicholas Papke, Alexander Papke and Lucas Wilkins along with many other beloved extended family members.
