Karen McAngus Hudson

Karen Lynn McAngus Hudson, 77, of Austin, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 31, 2026. She was born in August of 1948 in Austin, Texas. Known as “Kay” in her childhood, Karen was the daughter of David and Agnes McAngus. She passed peacefully in her home from complications related to Parkinson's disease.

Karen graduated from Wm. B. Travis High School in 1966 and double-majored in French and Spanish at the University of Texas at Austin. She began a career in social work at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and continued there for many years before retiring. For a time, she worked in the church office and taught in the elementary school at Bannockburn Baptist Church. She then returned to work for the State of Texas at the Texas Workforce Commission until her full retirement.

Karen was a lady of sharp wit, kindness, and grace. Music was one of her passions, especially band music and church hymns. She played clarinet in the Travis Rebel Band, traveled to Central America with the All-American Youth Honor Band, and played in the UT Longhorn Band. She later played for many years in the Bannockburn Church Orchestra and the New Horizons Band. Karen was a proud member of the UT Longhorn Alumni Band where she enjoyed events with many life-long friends, served as an officer, and was thrilled to travel to London to march in the 2015 New Year’s Day parade. Karen was a talented hobby seamstress. Throughout her life, she made countless garments and quilts for her children, friends, and loved ones. Karen loved the Lord and matured in her faith as a 35-year member of Bannockburn Church. She greatly valued her friends in her church family as well as the ladies in her Austin Oaks Bible Study group and her time in Bible Study Fellowship.

Karen was preceded in death by husbands Mike Stewart and Truman Hudson, her father the Honorable Judge David S. McAngus, her mother Agnes K. McAngus, her sister-in-law Nancy N. McAngus, and numerous cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her three children: Kay Lynn McQueary Worthy and husband Randy of Orange, Kyle Wimberley and wife Felicia of San Antonio, Sara Wimberley Stewart and husband Tim of Austin. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Tyler Worthy and wife Katie, Caleb Worthy and wife Kimberly, Jessica Worthy Coleman and husband Michael, Jenna Kay Worthy Salerandi and husband Justin, Jordan Lynn Worthy, Reagan Karynn Wimberley, and Jackie Stewart; ten great grandchildren: Jacob, Rylan, Carson, Ava, Adalynn, Tucker, Whitlea, Jillian, Hallie, and Davis; three treasured brothers: Dan McAngus and wife Judy of New Braunfels, Scott McAngus of Boerne, Drew McAngus and wife Elaine of Oak Hill; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children.

Karen loved her family and friends deeply and was blessed to have special ties to friends she had known from her childhood, her college and early career days, her church family, and various organizations.

Karen’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Teresa, Terry, and Heather, and her care team from Hospice Austin.

Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will take place 10AM Friday, August 7, 2026 at Bannockburn Church, 7100 Brodie Ln, Austin, TX 78745.

A Committal Service will be held 1PM Friday, August 7, 2026 at Teck Cemetery, 2606 Ranch Road 620, Austin, TX 78734.
