Karen Lorraine Lee

Karen Lorraine Lee, age 69, peacefully passed away on September 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, guidance, and deep devotion to others. Born on May 2, 1957, to Roy Matthew and Alice Jean Lee, Karen learned the value of family early in life by helping her mother care for her younger sisters. She was a proud 1975 graduate of Albert Sidney Johnston High School, where she shared her vibrant spirit as a member of the marching band, sparking a lifelong love for music and the performing arts. Throughout her life, she found immense joy in attending live performances, particularly ballet, opera, and marching band competitions.

Karen dedicated her career to uplifting youth as a Career Transition Specialist with Job Corps for 20 years after dedicating 20 years to MetLife Insurance Company. In this role, she touched countless lives, helping students navigate their next steps and smoothly transition into the workforce. She was a foundational source of encouragement, practical wisdom, and hope for young professionals. Karen’s professional path perfectly mirrored her personal values; she went on to earn an associate’s degree in social work from Southern New Hampshire University. Grounded in a strong, lifelong faith, Karen was an active member and Reader in the Christian Science church. She approached her work and her community with grace, compassion, and an unshakeable belief in the potential of every person she met.

Karen’s greatest joy was her family, which included her beloved dogs Silkk and Daisy and her loving cat, Prince, who brought her immense happiness and comfort in her final days. She is lovingly survived by her two children, Kenny and Crystal (Don); her three cherished grandchildren, Don Eric, Ja'Nyah, and Deja; and her three devoted sisters, Glenda, Pam (Ron), and Yolanda (“Dodie”). She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Matthew Lee and Alice Overton; her grandfather, James Lee ("Grandpa Jim"); her brother-in-law, Naze Washington, Sr. and many beloved aunts and uncles. Her warmth, dedication, and spiritual strength will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and colleagues.
