Kay Thompson died unexpectedly on Wednesday June 3 at the age of 66. Born in Wichita Falls on April 20, 1949, Kay grew up in Dallas, Houston and Austin, one of three daughters of Kyle and Vivian Thompson. Her father was a prisoner of the Japanese in World War II who later became Austin bureau chief for UPI and press secretary for Gov. John Connally and U.S. Sen. John Tower. Kay graduated from Lanier High School in 1967 and attended Blinn College in Brenham. She held a variety of professional positions, including serving as a long time legal assistant to attorneys in Corpus Christi and Austin.
Kay had a big heart and a laugh that engulfed a room. She was kind, generous, never forgot a birthday and held many interests, from bird-watching and photography to sewing and sports. She was a member of the Pilot Club of Corpus Christi. Kay loved movies, butterflies and flamingoes, the Corpus Christi surf, Tex-Mex cuisine and the Round Rock Express. But, most of all, she deeply loved those who were fortunate to be part of her life.
Survivors include her sisters, Linda Thompson Montgomery and Janis Thompson, both of Austin; brother-in-law, David Montgomery of Austin; nephew, Colin Montgomery of Austin, and niece, Mandy Briggs of Houston.
Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home North, 3125 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin.
