You were my favorite uncle and I didn't get to say goodbye. The last day I got to see you, I refused to hug you because you weren't wearing a shirt. I refused to say bye because I didn't want to. I have a deep regret for that day and I wish I could have a do-over as do many people. I miss you with all of my heart and sometimes I wish I was just dreaming. I have wished and wished but that wish hasn't happened. What happened was real and it can never be undone. It's yet again another year without hearing your voice, seeing your smile, and smelling the food you were cooking in the kitchen. I will never get to hear your game day chant. I will never get to see Captain Niner. I won't get any of that because you are gone from my life. I miss you, Uncle Kenny.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My daughter Rita Gomez Granados who is also deceased knew him as I am sure our son Frankie did too. May each day be brighter and the child be a reminder of Kenny and make you smile.

Dear Debbie and Charles,
My heart was broken when I heard the news of Kenny's death. I know it been many years, since I have seen any of you, but I have never forgotten about you and the boys, (well their men now).  My prayers have never ceased to go up for you and the family, since I have heard about Kenny. 

You and Charlie must feel like you have a hole in your heart and that this just does not make any sense.  Nevertheless, I pray that God strengthen and comfort you all through this time of grief.  He will see you through this, stay strong and cling to him.  We will understand it better by and by.

Since I am unable to be there in person I wrote this poem in honor of my friend. For the Alves family.

"Some Called You Gentle Giant"

The day you came into my life,
I knew not the role you'd play.
I got to know your silly side,
And your loving ways.

I came to love you dearly,
When you were there for me,
On the day I most needed a friend,
And you stayed close beside me.
You quickly offered me your arms,
And said itâ€™d be ok.

The day I heard you left this earth,
I hoped they'd lied instead.
For who would now console me,
From this wound I cannot mend.
I thought you'd be here forever,
So I made no back up plan.

Kenny had many sides to him but he was first and foremost a loving husband and a good father to his children. He loved his sports, especially his Niners. i enjoyed giving him a hard time when they lost and he did the same to me. Kenny loved to play pranks and you always had to wonder if he was pulling your leg or not. He got great joy from getting someone good. i will miss him.  Candace, we will be here for you whatever you need as we always have. We love you and Kenneth and Kennedy so much. We are praying for all of you. i don't know why God took Kenny from us so soon but we hhave to trust that he needed him more than we did. I don't know what else to say but we love you. 



When I first heard the news of Kenny's passing I couldn't believe it, I still find it hard to accept. I even felt angry that I had lost contact for several years with one of my dearest friends and now it was much to late to make up for it. I really got to know Kenny our senior year at Del Valle. By his shear size Kenny could be an intimidating guy. He could also be so silly, and an outright knucklehead at times. At the end of the day, however, Kenny was absolutely caring and he was giving. He LOVED his nieces and nephews, so I am not surprised to hear he was a great father.

During the years I was closest to Kenny I was blessed with many fond memories. He once mentioned to me that he disliked me before we got to know each other. His "disdain" for me started our sophomore year when I stood up to him for arguing back and forth with our history teacher. I honestly don't remember what I said, but it pissed him off enough to remember that moment years later. Little did we know that interaction would define much of our friendship. I genuinely think our bickering initially brought us together as friends. He was a big dude and at a "tall" 5'2 I acted like he couldn't easily take me down. Once, we got in trouble in our homeroom class when he pulled out a pair of boxing gloves and OF COURSE I took him on, tried at least.

Kenny could surprise you when he switched on his caring nature. He was a great support to me when I went through some tough times. After high school we remained friends and met up when ever I made it into Austin. When he started at Le Cordon Bleu I was excited for him. Up until that point I had not been aware of how passionate he was about culinary arts, but that's when he told me about his childhood days with his grandmother. Although it hurts that I will never get to see Kenny again, I am so grateful to have had him in my life. My heart goes out to his many family members. I only wish I could be there in person to share my love and sympathy.

My heart breaks for the two of you and the rest of your family. Words cannot heal or numb the pain that you all are feeling. Only time will help you understand and bring you healing. The love you all share for Kenny and each other will help by sitting around and talking about him, telling the "do you remember the time when he....", funny stories, his jokes, and seeing him through his children. The love you have for your God will also bring you peace and comfort. My love and thoughts are with you all during this very difficult time. My apologies for not being able to make it to show my respects. I wish I could hug you both right now. 



My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the entire Alves family, immediate and extended. I first met Kenny in high school and our friendship started when we realized we were in the same organization (UPC) and often at the same events. We hit it off and were extremely close friends over the years. I'm going to truly miss my dear friend, Kenny B. Always by my side when I needed him most (& even when I didn't need him, he refused to leave me alone!) A caring gentle giant, he was like a big brother to me. Each time I moved, I never needed to hire movers because Kenny was always there to help me move & brought back up (and I did this a lot). As he was going through Culinary Academy, I was often his guinea pig and he later prepped me on cooking dinner for some of my ex boyfriends. He was my bowling buddy that always seemed to let me win. Our ritual of Trudy's mexican martinis and Baby A's "purples" and countless laughs are now forever engraved in my heart as wonderful memories of such a genuine guy I had the pleasure of knowing for so long and the honor of calling a true friend. About a month ago Kenny did his usual "checking" on me--making sure I was healthy and happy. That's just the kind of friend he was. He will forever be in my heart and missed beyond words. Hugs to you Candace, Kenneth, Kennedy and all of the Alves family.

I'll always remember Kenny's sense of humor and how welcome he made everyone feel.  In my memory, he was overtly sweet and genuinely kind.  My favorite memory of him was at our high school graduation, after the caps were tossed and everyone was up and out of their seats running around, Kenny sat on the steps of the stage, tears in his eyes, looking at the crowd like no one could see him.  One of the biggest (physically and personality wise) people in the room, off to the side, drinking in the moment.  I sat next to him for a moment, we hugged and I hadn't seen him since.  I hope everyone has such a warm memory of him to enjoy. 

To Candace and the rest of the Alves family - I give you my sincerest condolences, and I wish you all the strength in the world to be able to make it through this devastating loss.



Words can not explain what your family is going through at this time. Kenny touched many people's lives and left numerous imprints of lasting memories. My deepest sympathy goes out to Candace & her children along with Kenny's parents and siblings. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

First I'd like to offer my condolences to the Alves family and friends and also to his wife candace and their children. 

Kenny was a great guy, very much more humorous than most but always in hopes of making people smile or laugh. We played a lot of sports together and was always a very wonderful team mate. He could make you laugh or make you mad but he could always make you forget about why you were mad. Lol but I will always remember kenny for always being there when I'd needed to hear some kind words. Thank you Kenny for being a great friend and an even better person. You will live on through all of us who knew you.

Kenny you will be missed. I will always remember you as the funny, loud, outspoken, fun guy to be around. It was not long ago I was sitting, having a drink alone at Baby A's on riverside and you come walking in with some other Del Valle friends. Laughing at me because I was sitting alone and drinking...I spent the next couple of hours hanging out with yall there at the table until it was time for me to leave....You had each one of us laughing hard with all the nonsense that came out your mouth....My thoughts and prayers for your little family with Candice and your larger family, also to Jason, may the good Lord comfort him every night, the most because of the whole situation. And last but not least your best friend, Marcus Gilden!!!! Rest in peace Kenny!
