

Kenneth Dale Zimmerman Kenneth Dale Zimmerman passed away on May 22, 2005 at the age of 81. Born in Dallas, Texas, on June 28, 1923, he was the only child of Charles F. and Thelma L. Zimmerman. He received his early education in Hallsville, Texas and Shawnee, Oklahoma and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942, serving in the Pacific Theater. In 1946, Kenneth and Wanda Hite married and four years later moved to Austin. After graduating from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Ken joined the Texas Safety Association, before starting Media Services on his own, in 1959. Ken also took on the Executive Vice-Presidency of the Austin Association of Builders. Soon thereafter, he purchased Neal Douglass studios and a print shop. He managed these four businesses simultaneously, in four different locations, for several years. Later, he went full-time with the Austin Association of Builders and remained with them until his retirement in 1988. Wanda Zimmerman passed away in 1970. In April 1971, he married Virginia Lysowski Pearson. He was active in the University Methodist Church in the 1950s and 1960s and joined the Hickman Bible Class in 1972. He was a past president of the Austin Civitan Club, Founding Director of the Boys Club of Austin (presently, the Boys & Girls Club of Austin and Travis County), Vice President of the Executive Officers Council of the National Association of Home Builders (Washington, DC) and a member of Sigma Delta Chi (the professional journalism society). He is survived by his wife, Virginia Zimmerman of Austin; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. John C. Zimmerman of Basye, Virginia and Kiev, Ukraine; his granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Zimmerman of Salt Lake, City; brother-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Hite of Bartellesville, Oklahoma; his step-son Bernard Pearson and his wife, Margaret V. Payne of Seattle, Washington; and, numerous beloved relatives. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, from 12 Noon to 9 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26th, at 10 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
