Kevin Chittim

Kevin was born in Wurzburg, Germany where his father, Reed, was stationed on November 19, 1955. The moment his mother, Barbara, gave birth, the church bells next door rang. He was the second of nine children and the oldest son of Reed and Barbara Chittim of Wyoming. Both sets of his grandparents were also proud to be from Wyoming.

Kevin grew up in New Mexico and loved being on the New Mexico Military Institute’s Rodeo team with his beloved brother, Tim. They had many escapades and wonderful adventures. He attended the University of Wyoming and graduated from the University of Texas. He was a diehard fan of both institutions.

Kevin was the owner of AA Teledata and also a broker with TCB Realty. He worked hard but his real achievement in life was his love for his family and his extended “family”. His proudest moment was the day his son, Austin, was born and then when Austin and his wife, Tara, brought two beautiful grandbabies, Jacob and Stella, into this world. Kevin loved nothing more than spending time with them and his dogs over the years who were also a big part of his family.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Bell (San Diego), his former spouse Michelle Chittim, his son, Austin Chittim, his daughter in law, Tara Chittim and their children, Jacob and Stella all of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his 8 siblings: Kathleen Strukoff and her husband, Rudy (California); Tim Chittim and his wife Gina (Austin), Teresa Chittim (NM), Virginia Chittim (NM), Bridget Chittim (Austin), Mary Fields (Austin), Margaret Blythe and her husband, JB (Colorado), and Charlie Chittim (San Diego) and their children. He is also survived by his aunts, Marilee Fattor (Colorado) and Margaret Bell (NY). He was predeceased by his father, Reed.

Kevin loved music of all sorts and sports. He attended not only every one of his son’s football games but every practice and was an extremely involved parent with those teams.

One sentence that would sum up Kevin’s life is: he had such a broad definition of “family” that included a wide array of special amigos and he was the surrogate father and brother to many. Mr. C’s house was the safe haven and caring place for many.

Kevin absolutely believed that his granddads and his father were heroes and he made every effort to be a hero to his son. The biggest legacy he would want to leave would be to have his son be a hero to his kids in return. His extended family will miss Kevin’s outrageous, signature laugh and that twinkle he always had in his eye.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19m, 2014 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road in Austin. Following the service there will be a celebration of Kevin’s life reception at Windy Point in Austin at 7:30 that evening.
