Kevin Maney

Kevin attended elementary and middle school in the Austin Independent School District. Raised in Old East Austin, he was deeply proud of his roots and the community that helped shape the man he became. Strong and influential women played an essential role throughout his life, including his grandmother, Marie Maney—whose name lives on through his daughter, Kennedy Marie—his cousins Doris Harper Coleman and Linda Fowler-Williams, and his beloved Aunt Bertha Woodard.

Kevin later moved to Woodsboro, Texas, with his mother and brother, where he was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Carl “Slick” Toliver. He attended Woodsboro High School and excelled as a standout athlete in football, basketball, and track. Kevin always cherished his years in Woodsboro and the lifelong friendships and memories made there, especially on Ashby Street.

Before marrying his beloved wife and becoming a member of the Church of Christ at Eastside, Kevin was baptized at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. On January 18, 2010, he obeyed the Gospel and faithfully dedicated his life to Christ.

Family was Kevin’s greatest joy. He treasured every moment spent with his children, Kennedy Marie Maney and Kevin Maney II. He also found great fulfillment serving his community as a youth football and basketball coach, mentoring countless young people throughout Austin. Known for his enthusiasm and encouragement, he was famous for reminding his players to do “push-ups, play defense, and attack with a full-court press!” His positive influence reached far beyond the basketball court and football field.

Kevin was affectionately known throughout East Austin as the “Italian Ice Man,” often spending time in the community he loved, especially around Givens Park. Whether attending family gatherings, mentoring youth, or simply enjoying time with friends, Kevin’s presence brought laughter, love, and encouragement to everyone around him.

Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Maney; his stepfather, Carl “Slick” Toliver; his sister, Pamela Toliver; and his brother, Kelvin Toliver.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Cre’Sandra Hardeman; his beloved children, Kennedy Marie Maney and Kevin Maney II; his siblings, Leon Tolbert III and Ontwonette “Nette” Toliver; his cherished Aunt Bertha Woodard; along with special nieces, nephews, cousins, many of whom he coached and mentored, and a host of other loving family members and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
