Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on October 6, 1949, Kris grew up primarily in Westport, Connecticut, and graduated from Staples High School. She earned an Associate in Arts degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Missouri in 1972.
That same year, Kris married the love of her life, Gregory Lee Allemann, beginning a marriage that spanned over five decades and was marked by deep affection and unwavering devotion. Together, they made homes in Houston, St. Louis, and Austin, following Greg’s career with Southwestern Bell and AT&T. Wherever they lived, they built lasting friendships and became firmly rooted in their church communities.
Kris was an active member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Ballwin, Missouri, and later Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, where she and Greg sang in the choir and developed close friendships. She maintained strong ties to her alma mater, serving on the Stephens College Alumni Board and participating in the Junior League in both St. Louis and Austin.
Kris’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother whose love for Greg remained strong and vibrant throughout their 53-year marriage. She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, pouring her heart into making each of them feel cherished.
One of Kris’s most remarkable qualities was her gift for making others feel seen and valued. She possessed a natural warmth and outgoing personality that drew people to her. She was known for sending thoughtful handwritten notes to people she met, especially through church, offering encouragement, welcoming words, or simply reminding them they were loved. Many of these initial acquaintances would become lifelong friends.
Even in the face of her own health challenges, Kris remained focused on others. During treatment for what was believed to be terminal cancer at MD Anderson in the mid-2000s, she spent time in the waiting rooms where jigsaw puzzles were laid out on tables. Often, patients would sit alone in quiet reflection. Kris, who was exceptionally good at puzzles, would visit each table, find a few fitting pieces, and gently engage her fellow patients, offering encouragement.
Kris is survived by her beloved husband, Gregory Allemann; her children, Alexander R. Allemann (Ashley), Andrew W. Allemann (Stacey Higginbotham), and Brittany Allemann Taylor; and her grandchildren, Grayson, Ava, Christian, Erys, and Joshua Hendrick “Henry” Jr. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Lynne and David Hortenstine, Pamela and Robert Wehmueller, Peter and Anne DeMallie, and Robert and Hildegard DeMallie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Miriam DeMallie, and her son-in-law, Joshua Hendrick Taylor.
A service celebrating Kris’s life will be held at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas, at 11:00 am on September 27, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, the Parkinson's Foundation, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or a charity of your choice
