Kyle Edward Thurin, age 37 of Austin, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2026. Kyle was a graduate of McNeil High School, Class of 2007 and earned a Bachelor of Psychology, and a Master of Psychology at Texas State University. He was employed by Media Science as an associate researcher for the last 11 years.
Kyle was both analytical and artistic. He loved discussing politics and books and was a gentle artistic soul who would share his passion for music and art with anyone who was interested. While he was often quiet and introspective, he was also funny and self-effacing. He loved being with family and his close lifelong friends. His smile and his laugh would light up a room, and his witticism could make you laugh out loud. Those whose lives he touched will be forever enriched by knowing him. Kyle was the best of us and the world is a dimmer place without his light.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Kathleen and Frank Duffy and his paternal grandmother Mary Jane Thurin. He is survived by his loving parents Bruce Edward Thurin of Austin, Texas and Margaret “Peggy” Duffy Thurin Fire of Grand Forks, North Dakota. He is also survived by his younger sisters Molly Elizabeth Thurin and Anna Keeley Jiongo (nee Thurin) and her husband Jacob, all of Austin, Texas as well as his paternal grandfather Louis Thurin of Louisville, Ohio. Kyle’s memory is also carried and cherished by numerous other cousins, uncles, aunts and his step sibling.
Calling hours are Wednesday October 14th from 4pm to 8pm at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home on Anderson Mill Road, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 11:00 Thursday October 15. Rosary will be said prior to Mass at 10:30. Internment will immediately follow the Mass on the church grounds followed by a light lunch in Brennan Hall.
