Laila Wakim-Jabour of Austin, TX passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2019, at her residence at Elan Southpark Meadows in Austin with her loving son and family by her side. Laila was born on February 9, 1935 in Tripoli, Lebanon, as one of seven children born to Foutine and Wakim Wakim. She was lovingly known to many as “Aunt Laila,” a devoted wife to Arthur Jabour and a loving mother to William James Jabour of Austin, TX. Laila and Arthur were married in 1953 and lived a full and happy life together in South Austin for over 50 years. Laila loved all things living and had a kind spot in her warm heart for animals in need. She loved, cared for and cured many helpless animals. Laila was a long-time member of the St. Elias Orthodox Church in Austin. She was devoted to her Orthodox Christianity and was instrumental in establishing what is now the well-known St. Elias Mediterranean Festival. Laila, with many of her family and friends, labored tirelessly each year to bring amazing Mediterranean foods and a celebration of cultures to Austin. Survivors include Laila’s only son William James Jabour, grandson Arthur James Jabour, sister Yvette Wakim-Boyd, and brother George Wakim. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2019 Trisagion starts at 5:00 pm, followed by visitation from 6:00 to 7:00, then the funeral services at 7:00 pm at St. Elias Orthodox Church.
On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, 10:00 am burial is scheduled at the Assumption Cemetery located at 3650 S. IH-35 Frontage Road Austin, TX 78701.
