Larry Hurshell Brooks

Larry Hurshell Brooks of Austin, Texas passed peacefully on August 5, 2026 at home with family at his side. He was 86 years of age. He was born in El Dorado Arkansas on December 11,1939. He graduated from El Dorado High School. And went on to study mathematics and economics at Oauchita Baptist University graduating in 1961. He joined the army after college and served as Captain during peacetime in Panama.

Larry was an original IT specialist working in the late 1960s and 70s as a programmer, including time working for NASA at Cape Canaveral. He was an entrepreneur in his later years owning the Austin area franchise for Mail Boxes Etc. Larry was outgoing and friendly and enjoyed working with the public

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Jackson (HJ) Brooks and Opal Esdell Bussell-Brooks. Uncle Aubrey Bussell. Nelda Faye Brooks-Barnes ,sister; James William Barnes, brother in law.

He is survived by his three daughters: Cheryl A Bowman, Carla R Apodaca and Cindy L Fox; nephew James Randall Barnes, niece Marsha Schwartz. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Bowman, Micaleh Bowman, Dustin Apodaca, Marissa Colburn. Great Granddaughter: Aria Faith Colburn

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at New Century Hospice and Homewatch Caregivers of Austin for the care and compassion they showed our loved father in his final days.
