Our beloved father and friend, Larry Carl Collins, Sr., passed to eternal life on Saturday morning, October 21, 2017. Larry was born January 14, 1937, in Bastrop, Texas, and was raised in Austin, Texas, by the late Ruby Mae Earls Collins and Delma Collins. Larry was a great musician. He discovered his love for music at a very early age. He first discovered the trombone at Keeling elementary school and played in the band all the way through graduation at Anderson High in 1951. He continued to enjoy music while attending college at Texas Southern and Huston Tillotson. He played in a group called the TSU Tornados. The group later changed its name to the Jazz Crusaders. After college, whenever the Jazz Crusaders were in the area, Larry would join the performance. In the early seventies, Larry opened one of San Antonio’s first black-owned recording studios and records shops, “Sound-Track Records.” It was always a place where people gathered to listen to new music and have a good time. He had an impact on all he encountered and was a true friend to many. Larry is survived by his five sons and one daughter: Gregory Brown, Larry Jr., Steven, Chris (Ta’Shaun), Anthony Morales and Angela Morales-Franklin. Additionally, he has eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives. Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm at Mercer Memorial Chapel, Fuller-Sheffield Funeral Home, 2808 E MLK Blvd Jr, Austin, Texas 78702. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2017, 11am, at New Light Ebenezer Baptist Church, 4703 Reyes St, Austin, Texas 78721.
