Jack graduated from Brownwood High School in 1942 and John Tarleton Agricultural College in 1944. Jack graduated from the University of Texas School of Law, LLB, in 1949. He attended Columbia University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1977. Jack served in the Army of the United States from 1944 to 1946, in the 86th Infantry Division in the United States, Europe and the Pacific. Jack was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1949 and the Bar of the State of New York in 1980. He was admitted to practice in the District Courts of the United States for the Western, Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of Texas; the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Jack was engaged in the private practice of law in Balinger, Texas from 1949 to 1957. He was employed by Texaco Inc. as an attorney in Houston and New York from 1957 to 1969 and as Associate General Counsel in New York from 1970 to 1979. Jack was employed by Caltex Petroleum Corporation as Vice President and General Counsel in New York and Dallas from 1979 to 1989. Jack retired from Caltex in 1989 and became a member of Johnson & Gibbs, P.C., in Austin and Houston from 1989 to 1991.
Jack was a member of Advisory Boards of the International and Comparative Law Centers of the Southwestern Legal Foundation; member of the Development Board of the University of Texas at Dallas from 1986 to 1991; member of the Board of Directors of the National Foreign Trade Council from 1985 to 1993; member of the Board of Directors of Horseshoe Bay Property Owners Association, President from 1993 to 1995; member and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Lake Area Health Center Foundation from 1993 to 1995. Jack was listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest in 1957, Who's Who in the World from 1984 to 1985, and Who's Who in American Law yearly since 1982.
Jack married Eloise Camille Dickinson in Brownwood, Texas on May 24, 1947. Eloise predeceased him in 2001. Jack is survived by three children, John of Idaho Springs, Colorado; Jim and wife, Cathy, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jane and husband John of Weston, Connecticut; six grandchildren, Lindsay, Catie, Johnny, Jackie, Elizabeth and Peter; and five great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by three sisters; Cathy, Eva, Caroline and sister- in- law, Julie; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1201 South Lavaca, Austin, Texas on Saturday, May 17 at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jack's memory may be made to The Jack Moore Endowment for Neurosciences at the Brain & Spine Center at University Medical Center Brackenridge, payable to The Seton Fund, 1201 West 38th Street, Austin, Texas, 78705.
Jack was dearly loved by his family and his many friends. He was a kind man and a perfect gentleman.
