Lee was born in Austin, Texas to Clara Kaiser Basore and Warren Lee Basore on August 30, 1940. Lee was a highly decorated Eagle Scout, and attended McCallum High School graduating in 1958. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Texas at Austin in January 1963 and remained an avid UT sports fan. Lee was a founding member and gave many years of service to Travis County Fire Control, serving as Fire Chief from 1962-1982. Lee also worked for many years as a freelance commercial artist and also as an elections worker for Travis County. Lee enjoyed art, participating in living history reenactments, collecting model trains and other collectible memorabilia. Lee was a great-great-grandson of the first Lutheran Pastor in Serbin, Texas, the Pastor John Kilian.
Lee is survived by his brother, David Lee Basore and his wife Brenda; niece, Denise Basore; nephew, John Basore, and his wife Chelsea, all of the Greater Austin Area; nephew, Michael “Bodie” Somsapya, and his wife Maria, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two great nieces and one great nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents, Warren & Clara Basore; and brother, Martin Warren Basore.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River Street in Austin on January 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Bryan Wolfmueller of Saint Paul Lutheran Church officiating, where Lee was a lifelong member and served on the archive committee. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Austin Memorial Park.
