Leon Noren

Conway Leon Noren, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 13, 2026, just three days shy of his 96th birthday. As Leon liked to say, “All of Mexico celebrates my birthday—el 16 de septiembre.”

Leon was born in Austin, Texas, on September 16, 1930, to Conway and Nadine Noren. He grew up in Austin, graduated from Austin High School, and attended the University of Texas, where he later earned his degree in architecture.

Throughout his career, Leon worked as an architect designing hospitals, including many in the Middle East. His profession reflected both his creativity and his desire to create places that served others.

Leon married the love of his life, Genevieve Belle Hetherwick, and became a devoted father to her three children, Sam, Jenny, and Sandy. When Genevieve became ill, Leon faithfully and lovingly cared for her for many years until her death in 2012.

A true Renaissance man, Leon had an enduring love of history, music, art, and literature. Even after macular degeneration diminished his eyesight, he never lost his curiosity or desire to learn, continuing to explore the world through audiobooks and other audio resources. He was witty, kind, and dearly loved by all who knew him.

Leon’s family is especially grateful to his neighbor and friend, Matt Knezevich, whose friendship and assistance made it possible for Leon to continue enjoying life in his own home. They are also deeply thankful for Meals on Wheels, Danylle Collins, and the many others whose kindness and care enriched his life.

Leon was dearly loved by his family: Sam Hoerster, who preceded him in death, and Sam’s wife, Mairbelle; Jenny Glassman and her late husband, Alan; and Sandy Stubbs and her husband, David. He will also be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.

Leon lived a remarkable life filled with devotion, curiosity, humor, and kindness. His memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
