Leona Brannan, 83, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2010. She is survived by three children, Kay Stewart, Rhonda Brannan, and Ken Brannan; one son-in-law, Hayden Stewart; one daughter-in-law, Janet Brannan; five grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, Jesse, Nicole, and Mariah; two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Lexington; a sister, Dorothy Stroud, and a host of other relatives and friends. Leona Pearl Pigg was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma, on July 24, 1926. She grew up mostly in the Panhandle of Texas, where her father was a preacher on weekends and a carpenter and builder during the week. She graduated high school in Stratford, Texas, and met Edgar Brannan during that period. They married on March 3, 1946, after Edgar returned from serving in the Pacific during World War II. Leona worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for a number of years until her children came along. She then became a full-time homemaker as the family moved from Lubbock to Dallas, and then finally to Austin. While in Austin, they attended Westover Hills Church of Christ. Leona was a gifted Bible class teacher, and she spent over 60 years teaching Bible lessons to children and ladies classes. Leona and Edgar enjoyed their retirement years by working tirelessly to share the love of Jesus with others. They traveled all over the world on medical mission trips and spent time teaching English using the Bible. Leona also taught many thousands of students throughout the world using World Bible School correspondence courses. She continued that endeavor almost until the end of her life. Leona had true gifts of friendship, encouragement and hospitality. Her influence was felt by everyone who knew her, and there was never any doubt that she was a true woman of God. Visitation will be at Cook-Walden Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 3, 2010, in the Cook-Walden Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will be held in Cook-Walden Capital Parks, Pflugerville, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be given to World Bible School, P.O. Box 2169, Cedar Park, TX 78630 or to a charity that is dear to your heart.
