Leona Jeanine Whittington, 85 years old, born December 8, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lesley and Ettie Mae Farr Logsdon. Jeanine was the youngest of three siblings and is survived by her older sister Janet Lincoln. Her brother Raymond Logsdon passed away four years ago. She was wed to Francis Darrell Whittington (deceased) for 62 years and had seven children; Deborah Whittington, Ellen Whittington, Keith Whittington (Kelly), Katrina Whittington, Leah Grajczyk (Douglas), Lesley Whittington (Stacey), Rachel Vernon (Carl Vernon, deceased) as well as adopted daughters of the heart, Terri Campbell Perrey and Teresa Elzey. The family grew with 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with two new babies due 2019; David and Heather Hewer (John & Mark), Kimberly and Aaron Schlegel (Haley and Luke), Brian Vernon, Stephen Hewer and Sarah Hoover, Amber and Brett Fritz (expecting Spring 2019), Chelsea and Tony Juarez (Morgan, Carson and Camyrn), Matthew Vernon and George Olsen, Kelsey and Jack Fogarty, Elizabeth Hewer, Garrett Vernon and Thelonious Love, Austin Grajczyk and Zac Bland, Kristen Whittington and Nathan Murphy, and Sierra Vernon.
Jeanine followed her husband Darrell to many states and even overseas as a military family. Everywhere they went was the next adventure to see new things and explore new cultures and people. Mom loved to travel, read, watch classic movies, go to museums, and learn history and culture. Her daughter Leah made it possible for Mom to visit all but two Presidential Museums across the United States. Her daughter Katrina accompanied Mom on the Turner Classic Movie Cruises to meet the stars of yesteryear and enjoy the ocean away from home.
Jeanine held several jobs through the years including working on electronic circuit boards. Her favorite was probably catering as it combined her love for cooking good food and sharing with people.
Jeanine served in many volunteer positions throughout her life many of them within the church as choir director, Sunday School Teacher, Church Board President and Women of the Church. She also served as cook and food deliver of the Austin Meals on Wheels. She was “Mom” to many a young service person throughout the years as well as to all her children’s friends. There was always room for one more…at the table, in her home and most of all in her heart.
A Celebration of Jeanine’s Life will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Ellen Whittington officiating.
