Obituary of Leonardo Flores Jr.
Our beloved father, age 94, a resident of Austin, Texas, was called by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. He was born in Taylor, Texas in 1928, and was raised on a farm in Taylor, Texas. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Upon his return home, he married his true love, Consuelo, and moved to Austin, Texas. He joined the Austin Police Department in 1954 where he served for 36 years, becoming the first Hispanic detective for the department, and retiring with the rank of Senior Sergeant. After retiring from the APD, he joined the Travis County Sherriff’s Department and worked at the Del Valle Correctional facility until he retired in 1993. He loved spending time at the lake with his family, camping, fishing, boating, and skiing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo “Betty” Flores. Survivors include his children Cynthia Gonzales, and husband Robert, Debora Zamorano and husband Art, Leonard K. Flores and his wife Michelle and Michael Flores and wife Liberty. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2022 followed by the rosary from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752, (512) 454-5611. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Rd., Austin, Texas 78757. Committal Services and interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. IH-35, Austin, Texas 78704.
