Born on the 6th of November 1931 and reared in Casper, Wyoming, LeRoy graduated from Natrona County High School in 1949 and then matriculated at the Colorado School of Mines. Enjoying the camaraderie of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and recognized for his stellar academic work with an invitation to join the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society, LeRoy earned a degree in Geophysical Engineering in 1953.
Married to Lois Stanton and degree in hand, LeRoy immediately entered military service, plotting topographic maps in the mountainous areas of Alaska using helicopters and portable radios during the Korean War. Arriving in Houston in 1966 with an ever-growing family, LeRoy worked for what is now ExxonMobil, involved with newly developed seismic technology that completely changed the way the industry searched for oil and gas resources. Along with making advances in petroleum exploration, LeRoy contributed his expertise to the publication of the Composite Magnetic Anomaly Map of the U.S. by the U.S. Geological Survey, Introduction to Geophysical Prospecting (Third Edition), Structure of the Earth's Inner Core, and Rock Density from Borehole Gravity Surveys. Furthering his academic achievements, LeRoy received a Master of Science degree in Geology at the University of Houston in 1972 and was honored by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists for 50 years of excellence in 2001.
LeRoy's exemplary acts of integrity and generosity plus his devotion to family, friends, community and career inspired all who knew and loved him. Beyond his intelligence and wit, LeRoy used his prodigious woodworking talent and skill to bring joy and beauty into his family’s lives and often volunteered them to benefit St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
LeRoy joins his adored wife Lois and angelic daughters Theresa Helen and Carey Catherine in the glorious realm of our Heavenly Father. Surviving LeRoy are his children, Jan Marie, Rae Ann, Gail Ruth (Joseph), and Michael Edwin; grandchildren, Jessica Goodwin (Robert), Cody Goodwin, Veronica Alegría (Dylan), and Nicole Ryman (Kyle); great grandchildren, Zamaiya Alegría, Kaimara Alegría, Alera Ryman, and Sage Ryman.
