Born on November 29, 1967, in Kherson, Ukraine, Lesia was the beloved only child of hardworking farmers who instilled in her dedication and compassion. While she once dreamed of becoming a police officer, her mother encouraged her to pursue medicine. Lesia went on to study at Donetsk Medical University, later completing her degree at Zaporizhzhia Medical University, where she became a pediatrician. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to caring for children as a medical doctor.
When russia invaded Ukraine, Lesia endured a month under russian occupation before being safely rescued and resettling in Austin, Texas. She quickly grew to love her new home, often saying Austin was “the best place on earth.” Always eager to learn, she embraced English, graduated from dog grooming academy, and proudly earned her driver’s license at the age of 57.
Lesia was a woman of many talents and passions. She loved her dogs dearly, enjoyed baking for Ukrainian community events, and gave her time to environmental volunteer work. She built strong friendships and integrated beautifully into her new community, bringing warmth, kindness, and resilience wherever she went.
Lesia’s life was tragically cut short by an aggressive illness, diagnosed only three months before her passing.
She is survived by her father, Vasyl, and her two daughters, Katia and Nataly.
