Lilia was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on December 11, 1932 to Gabriel and Sara (Chacon) Martinez. She married Juan Hernandez in Weslaco, TX in 1952. They were married for 45 years. Together they had eight children. She was all about her family, making sacrifices without thinking twice! She would make sure all her children were well dressed and had everything they needed. She was always proud to say that’s my son or that’s my daughter! Her hobbies weren’t broad but the one thing she loved the most was gardening. We were always the home with all the beautiful flowers. She would spend most of her day tending to her plants. She was able to accomplish the upbringing of four boys and three girls, who became educated and contributing members of society. Education for all her children was of utmost importance! Lilia was a very giving and kind woman. She would literally give the shirt off her back to friends and family. She would welcome guests at all hours of day and night and made sure they had something to eat. Again, always willing to make a sacrifice for others! These great traits were topped off with a sense of humor. She was always quick with a joke. She enjoyed sharing laughter with her family and friends! Lilia will be remembered as a beautiful woman, mother, and friend.
