Lillian Salazar (formerly Besa), of Austin, Texas, was called home by her Heavenly Father on 04/21/2025 at the age of 84. Lillian was born to Alfredo "Fred" and Antonia Besa (formerly Faccito) on March 3, 1941, in Waco, Texas.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Michael (Cristina) Salazar and David (Billie) Salazar; 2 brothers, Raymond (Patsy) Besa and Manuel (Rose Marie) Vargas; 6 grandchildren, Michael (Alexis) Salazar, Ashley (Kevin) Wickham, Lauren (Sean) Franklin, Leah Salazar, Anthony Ojeda (Lorena) and Marie Behr; 6 great grandchildren, Delilah Salazar, Alexander Salazar, Judah Salazar, Anderson Wickham, Everly Wickham, Anthony (Hannah Marie) Behr; and 1 great, great grandchild, Zaydn Behr.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Marcos Salazar Jr.; her oldest son, Marcos Salazar III; her parents Fred and Antonia Besa; her sister, Esther Leos (formerly Besa); and 3 brothers, Alfred Besa, Alex Besa and Richard Besa.
Lillian grew up in Austin, Texas, but moved to California in June 1957 to live with her sister shortly after the death of their mother. After graduating high school, she went on to marry Marcos Salazar in Los Angeles, California, before returning to Austin, Texas, where she resided until her death. Once her youngest son started school, she went to work at Brackenridge Children’s Hospital of Austin where she retired after 21 years. Not able to sit still, she continued to work at Seton Hospital for an additional 12 years, finally retreating from work in 2008.
Lillian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend; she will be missed by her family and friends. She was kind, patient, and always ready with a listening ear and a warm hug. We are grateful that she gave her heart to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, before her death. Though we mourn her passing, we find comfort in knowing that Lillian is now in the presence of the Lord.
Her ashes will be interred at the family plot located at Assumption Cemetery at 3650 S. IH 35, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Lillian requested donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Central Texas (https://www.mealsonwheelscentraltexas.org/?campaign=426730).
