Linda Ann Tucker Wukasch went home to her beloved Jesus on Sunday, February 15, 2026. A two-time cancer survivor, Linda passed away from a rare form of bladder cancer at the age of 88. Her battle was quick and painless, and we are grateful to God for this blessing and answered prayer.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 22, 1937, to Rayma Griffith Tucker and John Francis Tucker, Jr., Linda moved with her family to New Orleans, where she attended elementary school. When Linda was 12, the family moved back to Fort Worth, where they were members of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Linda graduated from Pascal High School in 1955, where she was active in Cheerleading and on the Tennis Team, held several class offices, and was beloved by many. She matriculated at the University of Texas Plan II, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1959. At UT, she joined Kappa Alpha Theta, a source of lifelong friendships and philanthropic endeavors, holding several sorority offices, including Social Chairman in 1957-58. Linda was voted “Most Beautiful” at UT Roundup in 1959. Following graduation, Linda moved to Houston to teach biology at Spring Branch High School.
Having turned down two marriage proposals, Linda carefully awaited God’s direction to marry the love of her life, Don Charles Wukasch, in 1962, following Don’s graduation from Baylor College of Medicine. In their initial year of marriage, Linda became the first biology teacher to teach at the newly-opened Memorial High School, after which she and Don moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, for his military service. They returned to Houston in 1965, and Linda and Don’s two children, Ann Elizabeth and Walter Charles II, followed in the years to come.
Linda loved God and her family first and foremost. Being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother (“Honey” to her adoring grandchildren) were the greatest joys in Linda’s life. She was a devoted volunteer and member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the altar guild and vestry, and co-founder and member of the healing and intercessory prayer team. She served on the discernment committee, helping to select seminary candidates for the church to sponsor.
Linda selflessly gave of herself to many people, organizations, and groups. Never one to shy away from hard work, Linda actively volunteered at the Junior League of Houston, where she was named President. She was a director of the River Oaks Garden Club. She was also a lifelong member of the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, where she served in many capacities, including as President of the Theta Charity Antique Show and as an officer in the “WildKATs” Investment Club. Linda engaged in many fundraising events for her church and community throughout her lifetime.
Linda never met a stranger and loved each friend as she loved her family and therefore had a large “extended” family of those special friends and relationships throughout her lifetime. She delighted in being in the company of family and friends. A seasoned world traveler, she particularly relished family trips to Colorado in both the winter and the summer as well as her trip to Jerusalem and the Holy Lands with friends from church.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Rayma and Jack Tucker. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Don Charles Wukasch; her daughter, Ann Wukasch, son-in-law, Brett Misenhimer, and granddaughter Marissa Gamel; her son, Walter Wukasch, daughter-in-law, Holly Wukasch, and grandchildren Alice and Charlie Wukasch; and her brother, John Tucker, of Fort Worth, his wife, Suzanne, and their children, Leigh Tucker Scanlon and Wynn Tucker, and their families.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all of Linda’s friends, especially her prayer group, which uplifted her for more than 50 years.
A funeral service will be held in Houston on Friday, April 10, at St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow in Sumners Hall. Those unable to attend may watch the livestream, available at http://sjd.org/wukasch.
A graveside burial service will be held in Austin on Sunday, April 12, at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow at Westwood Country Club, 3808 W. 35th Street.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, Houston, TX 77019, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Road, Austin, TX 78703, or to the charity of one’s choice in honor of Linda’s generous spirit and inclusive nature.
