Lois Walker

Lois was born December 1, 1918 in Hanover, TX in Milam County to Charles Mitchell "Mitt" Beacham and Emma Fisher Beacham. She grew up in Cameron, TX and graduated from Yoe High School. She later moved to Austin and attended Durham's Business School. During this time she met Beverly Otis Walker and they were married on Christmas Day, 1941. Beverly preceded her in death in 2003, after 61 years of marriage.

Lois leaves to cherish her memory their three children: John Walker and wife Anne of Round Rock, Neil Walker and wife Lindy of Austin, and Beverly Stringer and husband Bob of Austin; grandchildren Lee Walker and fiancée Carrie Fruge of Austin, Clifton Stringer and wife Lindsey of Lake Hills, Rebecca Walker of Austin, Lisa Stringer Wilkinson and husband Matt of Houston, and Suzanne Walker Braaten and husband Adam of San Antonio; and great grandchild, Evangeline Stringer.

Lois loved babies and children and is remembered as a favorite by all the "boys" growing up on Wheless Lane. She was active in her church and with children's activities, serving as room mother, PTA officer, Cub Scout den mother, Brownie leader, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Lois worked a number of years at Sears in Hancock Center in the infant and children's department. Lois is also remembered for her exquisite home cooking and baking. Cakes and cookies were her specialty.

Her five grandchildren were the lights of her life and she loved them, thought about them, and worried about them in the way grandmothers do—equally—until the end of her life.

In recent years, it was known that Lois dreamed of being a great-grandmother. That dream was realized six weeks before her death with the birth of Evangeline Stringer. Just days before her passing, as she celebrated her 93rd birthday with family, she and Evangeline gazed at each other as if they were memorizing the other's face.

Visitation will be held at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, 2601 Exposition Blvd., Austin on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM and burial at Wallace Mountain Cemetery, Dripping Springs, TX at 2:30 PM. Reverend Clifton Stringer will officiate.
