Fun, caring, and much-loved, he and Harriet enjoyed international travel and was proud of visiting all 50 states. Football was his favorite, but Louis enjoyed watching all sports.
His involvement in his community started when he helped found the first Rattlesnake Hunt in Sweetwater, Texas. He was involved with the Jaycees, acted as deacon in the First Christian Church, and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
Louis helped establish the Meals-on-Wheels program in Grand Prairie, TX, delivering for 13 years in Grand Prairie and the Dallas area. He began the Nolan County Juvenile Probation Office and served his community for 30 years as a social worker in the Texas Department of Human Resources.
Most important to Louis was his family. He loved his wife, Harriet, daughters, Janis Allgood, Louise Gray (Ben), and Susan Priddy (Ronald). He was very close to granddaughters Brenda Hudson (Dave), Bethany Flint (Jeff), and Sharon Horne (Ryan). His great-grandkids–four boys and one girl–loved riding with Louis on his wheelchair.
Louis’ life will be celebrated at First Presbyterian Church, Austin on Friday, June 7, 2:00 PM. Donations to Meals-on-Wheels in your community would be appreciated.
