

Lorraine Mary Tyx was born March 27, 1928 to the late Raymond and Elizabeth Duval in Orange, Massachusetts. She passed from this life on Monday, August 3, 2009 in Austin, Texas. Lorraine graduated from Orange High School and remained active in the Orange High School Alumni. She retained a strong connection to her roots in Orange and supported the Orange Wheeler Library. She was a graduate of Peter Bent Brigham Nursing School and used her training there in support of her country. She retired as a Lt. Col in the United States Air Force where she served as a flight nurse for over 22 years. She was a member of Society of Air Force Nurses, charter member of Women's Memorial, member of the Peter-Bent-Brigham School of Nursing Alumni Association, The Austin Military Officers Association of America, life member of American Legion Post 76, member of Disabled American Vets. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Tyx of Spicewood; step-son, Mark Tyx and his wife Claire; step-daughter, Carolyn Taylor and her husband Ray; granddaughter, Cameron; nieces, Jean Kie and husband Bruce, Linda Mercier and husband Steve, Carol Poliwczak and her husband John. She is also survived by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rita Geddis. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on South Congress with a vigil service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 7, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2:15 pm Friday, August 7, 2009 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
