
Lt. Colonel Jack Teague, a West Point trained career soldier, who developed a keen interest in helping young people find suitable career paths, died at his Austin home on Friday, April 1, 2005. Teague, 83, served in military posts over much of the world. He retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service and began a new career with the State of Texas. He retired again from State service in 1986. Teague received a Presidential appointment to the U.S. Military Academy in 1940 and graduated with the war time class of 1943. He took his first salute as an Army officer from his retired Army Sergeant father. He was born in San Francisco, California to Relda F. and Delia May Rutherford Teague and grew up in military posts across the country. He served with the 25th infantry division in the Philippine Islands during World War II. Subsequent assignments followed in Japan, Germany, Mexico, and Korea and at Fort Sill, Fort Chaffee, and at the Army Command and General Staff College as well as the Pentagon in Washington, DC. After his Army retirement and employment with state government, he became interested in job training and placement and wrote a book entitled Whats the Right Job for You? (How to find out for yourself). Teague is survived by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Lauderdale Teague; a son, John Teague of Dripping Springs; and several cousins. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6th at St. Davids Episcopal Church, 7th and San Jacinto Streets with The Rev. Margaret Waters and The Rev. Thomas W. Teague of North Richland Hills, Texas officiating. Parking will be available in the church parking garage with entry on Trinity St. between 7th and 8th Streets.
