Lucille Kountz Treanor, 75, of Austin, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007. She was born November 21, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, to John B. and Pearl Kountz. Lucille retired from the Texas Commission for the Blind. She worked after retirement for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission where she met Dr. Manuel Ramirez of Austin, Texas, and was instrumental in helping him build his practice until 2002. She was drum major by the age of eight years old and sang with her church choir and played organ throughout her adult life. Her musical talents were passed on to her son, John "Mambo" Treanor, a popular Austin percussionist. He preceded her death in 2001. Her parents, brother and husband also preceded her death. Lucille embodied motherly devotion and it was providential that she was reunited with him on Mothers Day. John was Lucille's life, yet, Lucille was fiercely independent, fiery and hot-blooded, living up to the Kountz family of Kimble County. She had a quick wit, sharp tongue and straight forward way with people. She loved a good argument and had a lot of excitement in her life. She was a fluent Spanish speaker and lived in Cozumel, Mexico, for several years. Her language skills were often described as better than a native speaker. Apart from this colorful side, Lucille was also kind, sweet and loving. She could be extremely thoughtful to those people whom she trusted and was close to and she touched many people across the world. Her final wishes were to be reunited with her son at Windy Point. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 10, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, followed by a brief ceremony at Windy Point where her ashes will be released. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the "Mambo John Treanor Fund for Musicians with Cancer," MusiCares Foundation. 3402 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405.
