Maria de la Luz Candelas (Lucy) Hajdar was born in Cuautla, Mexico, and grew up with her mother and three brothers in Cuernavaca. She emigrated to Dallas, Texas in 1958 where she met and married her husband of 47 years, Sandor (Alex) Hajdar, a 1956 refugee from Hungary. Through hard-work and commitment, together they achieved the American Dream.
Lucy was committed to helping others and creating a loving home for her children and grandchildren. She brought humor to all occasions. She loved her homeland, music, dancing, crafting and soccer. She did charity work through the Catholic Daughters of America and donated money to schools knowing the value of education.
She is survived by her loving children, Sandor and Esther; her grandchildren Valda Maria, Bonnie Dyane, Sandor Raul, Alejandro Mihaly, Sophia Marie, and John Sandor; and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, mother and siblings.
Rosary and funeral mass for Lucy will be starting at 11 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at North Chapel of Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas. Internment and a reception will immediately follow the mass.
