Marc A. Garcia passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2026, surrounded by his family after a brief but valiant battle against cancer. Born to Alfredo P. and Maria S. Garcia, Marc was the fourth of five children.
A native Austinite, Marc attended St. Austin’s Catholic School and L.C. Anderson High School. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas State University. He worked a number of years for various State of Texas agencies and then left to begin a private consulting practice as a software engineer, which he did until his retirement in 2025. He was very grateful that his consulting business gave him the opportunity to travel to many different countries and meet people from all over the world.
Growing up in Austin, Marc participated in school sports and was a good all-around athlete. He always looked forward to winter ski trips to New Mexico and Colorado with friends and family. Some of the fondest memories of his youth were of the times he spent enjoying summer boating on Lake Austin with his friends. Marc was an avid Texas Longhorns supporter and a car enthusiast owning many sports and classic cars over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his fellow car buffs and watching and attending auto racing events. He was also a serious amateur go-kart racer and took pride in his driving skill holding fastest lap times even in his later years.
Marc was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Eden Hooker. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Hooker (Jake) and his siblings Suzanne Guerrero (Fred), Mario Garcia (Elsa), Albert Garcia (Dawn), and Marisa Krug. Marc is survived by his three grandchildren, Jacob Hooker, Bennett Hooker and Daisy Hooker: and by four nieces, Suzanne Pekarek (Rob), Lynette Rousseau (Rick), Claudia Romney (Brett), and Laura Shields (Peter). He is also survived by four great nephews, Cole Romney, Miles Romney, Mason Shields, and Emmett Shields, and great niece Adrienne Shields. Marc is also survived by his paternal aunts Mila Salinas and Norma Aten as well as numerous cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Marc’s best friend, Jonathan Barron who kept Marc company through many weeks of care in the hospital and at home. The family would also like to thank Dr. Carsten Kampe, M.D., Ph.D., FACP, for his extraordinary compassionate care and unwavering support for Marc. Special thank you to his caregivers Xena, Shirley and Yunet from Amada Senior Home Health Service for their dedicated care and kindness during his final days.
