Margaret Mathews Carver passed away on May 27, 2012. She was born on July 5, 1921, in Reelsville, Indiana, to parents Guy and Sarah Allen Mathews. During World War II she worked in a factory helping the war effort. Afterwards, she attended Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, where she received a B.A. in Home Economics. She met her husband Robert Jesse Carver in Indiana, and the two were married in 1949. Over the course of their marriage, the two resided in Dearborn, Michigan; Caracas, Venezuela; Miami, Florida; and Clear Lake, Houston.
During her life, Margaret served her community in a number of ways, including through the vocation of teaching, and through involvement with charitable organizations and local councils.
In the early 90's Margaret and Robert moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to their three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Mona, Robert and Susan, and John and Debbie, all of whom survive her, along with granddaughters Leigh and Andrea Carver, and grandsons Justin and Zachary Carver. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Anna, her brother James, and her beloved husband Robert.
Margaret was known widely and fondly by many, and made friends wherever she went. She cherished a deep love for the life around her, and had an adventurous spirit that age never tamed. She was loyal, kind, and though she loved to travel, it was the people that she met that mattered the most to her. Her gentle spirit, loving soul, and generous nature will be deeply missed.
A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
