Margaret Tisdale Dykes

Margaret Tisdale Dykes, 78, of Austin passed away on November 9, 2005. She was born on March 25, 1927 to Frederick Owen and Anne Moses Tisdale in Lunenburg County, Virginia. Her family will always remember her as a loving wife, devoted mother, and delightful Grandmother. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. After graduating from Hampton (VA) High School in 1945, Margaret went to work for NACA doing flight meteorology work for some of the nation’s earliest supersonic pilots. While working at Langley AFB in Virginia, she met and married her love for the past fifty-five years, Gordon “Wayne” Dykes. From Virginia, Margaret and her growing family moved to Tullahoma, Tennessee; Huntsville Alabama; Livorno, Italy; Winchester, Virginia; finally settling in Austin, Texas in 1978. Margaret was very active at First Presbyterian Church chairing the sewing circles for a number of years. She took her young children to church regularly so that they might come to know Christ as their Savior as she did. Mrs. Dykes is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne. She leaves many loving memories, two daughters, Donna (Larry) Flowers of Champaign, IL and Elizabeth (Daryl) Raiford of Boonton, NJ; two sons, Steven (Jane) Dykes of Dallas, TX, and Brian (Pamela) Dykes of Ramstein, Germany; sisters Lucille Tisdale and Hettie Beachum; brother, Ted; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Renison. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a celebration of Margaret’s life at a memorial service at 11:00 on 14 November 2005 at First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, TX 78731 with Reverend Don Hauck and Dr. Terrence Sherry officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Margaret’s name to the Texas Presbyterian Children’s Home or the First Presbyterian Church’s Memorial Fund.
