Peggy Annis died on Good Friday, March 25, 2016, after falling at home. This was the last of many complications over seven years of continuous treatment for multiple myeloma. She was loved for her spirit, her energy, her humor, and her view that the world is beautiful.
Peggy (Marguerite Reyburn Annis) was a vibrant 72 year-old born in Morristown, NJ on August 14, 1943. She was raised in Erie, PA before traveling the country and meeting her future husband in 1969 on a blind date in Seattle, WA. Three lovely daughters followed as life progressed to California (Sally), Florida (Mary Starck), and Austin, Texas (Marguerite) where she and Joe have lived for the past 38 years.
She was raised appreciating the outdoors, enjoying sailing, skiing, tennis, hiking, any outside activity. She wanted the windows wide open, the A/C off, ceiling fans on - even in Austin's hot summers. On the porch rather than inside. A walk after dinner regardless the weather. All with her signature sunny smile. Peggy's favorite was her screened back porch. The day before she died she was on the front porch doing her exercises in her wheelchair.
She was a wonderful full-time mom who was selfless with others, volunteering her time in various activities over the years, the most meaningful was serving as an English-Spanish translator in volunteer medical clinics. She loved the Spanish language, people and cultures.
She was always welcoming and caring, people felt comfortable around her. She was a funloving, smart, generous and elegant lady who maintained these qualities even during nettlesome physical challenges. She was grace and grit.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joseph Annis, MD; daughters Sally Annis and Mary Annis Pautler; sister Natala Reyburn Goodman; and many treasured in-laws and dear friends. In-laws include: Tim Pautler, Donald Goodman, Heidi Reyburn, Brian and Carolyn Annis, Drs. Paul and Mardi Annis, Brent and Barbara Annis Pickard, Paul and Margie Annis Arnett, John and Kathy Annis McDowell, Tim and Margie Annis, Roberta Annis, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her lovely youngest daughter, Marguerite Metcalfe Annis; her brother Peter; and her parents Nathaniel and Myra Reyburn.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5455 Bee Cave Rd., Austin, TX.
