

Mary Castillo went home to our Lord on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, after an 11 year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, children and extended family. Mary was born in Dallas, Texas on March 7, 1927 to Jesus Herrera and Cristina Cano. Her family moved to Austin in 1945. She married Pete M. Castillo on December 26, 1953 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mary retired from AISD after 18 years of service. She was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Ladies Auxiliary Post 1805 and of the Father Joseph Houser Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Council #10148. Mary was also a devoted member of the San Jose Catholic Churchs Guadalupanas. Mary was preceded in death by her infant son Guadalupe Castillo; grandson Fernando Machado, Jr.; father Jesus Herrera and mother Cristina Cano Herrera; maternal grandfather Santos Cano and maternal grandmother Dominga Cano; brothers Juan Herrera and Pedro Herrera. She is survived by her husband Pete Martinez Castillo; by children, Carmen Castillo Adams and husband Tim, Dolores Arriaga and husband Ernest, David Castillo, Arthur Castillo, Peter Castillo and wife Debra, Martha Castillo (Paul Hernandez), Rose Mary Castillo (Martin De La Rivas), Mary Alice Castillo (Frank Alvarez), John Philip Castillo, Margaret Ann Castillo, Sandra Castillo (Ron Castillo); daughter-in-laws Martha Vasquez and Frances Castillo; 32 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; brother Daniel Herrera; sisters Felicitas H. Contreras and Anna Maria Saldana; included are numerous extended family members. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ernest Arriaga, Jr., Jacob Ray Adams, Stephen Cray Arriaga, Arthur Castillo, Jr., Christopher James Luna, Jonathan Philip Villela, Peter Lawrence Castillo and David Julian Castillo. Honorary pallbearers are Crescencio Mercado Arriaga, Adam Joseph Castillo, Alexander James Castillo, Anthony David Castillo, Joseph Daniel Castillo, John Nicholas Alvarez, Thomas Ray Castillo, Cameron Castillo Dalehite and Mark Anthony Luna. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2007 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Chapel. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2007, at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue in Austin. Interment will follow at Memorial Hill Park Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
