She was born on February 5, 1946, in Austin, Texas, to the late Cleotilde Olvera and Reyes Olvera. Susie will be remembered for her quick wit, fashionable style, deep love for her family, faith, and unwavering devotion to the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys — especially in the pre–Jerry Jones era.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank De La Rosa; her brothers, Reyes Alfonso “Buddy” Olvera, and Jose Carlos Olvera; her sisters, Mary Castanon, Alicia Garcia, and Delores Canales.
She is survived by her children, Steve Aleman, David De La Rosa, and Deanna Niesner; her grandchildren, Sierra Priest, and Dylan Niesner; her sisters, Anna Ullrich, Theresa Gonzales, and Elizabeth Alaniz.
Susie was a valued employee of TREC, and a part-time employee of the IRS, retiring in 2008, after many years of dedicated service. In her later years, she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved dogs: Pepita and Beto.
Susie was an excellent cook who proudly carried on the family tradition of the tamalada alongside her sisters, Anna and Mary. She loved preparing the Mexican dishes her mother taught her to make and was especially known for her buñuelos and Christmas time repostería cookies.
Kind, generous, and full of life, Susie will be deeply loved, greatly missed, and forever remembered by all who knew her.
