

Maria Adela Hinojosa died on Saturday, January 8, 2022, in Austin, Texas at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rafael Hinojosa Jr.; her parents, Raul and Aurora Castro; brothers Carlos, Oscar, and Armando Castro; sisters Gloria Martinez and Juanita Valles.
She is survived by her brother, Raul Castro (Toli); sister Maria Ofelia Arzamendi; sister-in-laws Delia Castro and Maria Guadalupe Castro; sons and daughters Loretta Salinas (Russell), Michael Anthony (Megan), Sonny Hinojosa (Evie), Veronica Hinojosa, John Hinojosa (Denise), Rick Hinojosa (Xann); several cousins, nephews and nieces as well as three grandsons, Nicholas Rolling, Rafael Hinojosa IV, and Luca Hinojosa.
Maria was born on May 2, 1944, in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated from Villa Maria Catholic High School in 1962. She attained her Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 from Texas A&I in Kingsville, and her Master of Science degree from the University of Corpus Christi in 1974.
Maria Adela began her teaching career at Cromack Elementary School in Brownsville, where she taught for two years. She was a teacher and counselor with West Oso ISD in Corpus Christi for ten years. She retired from the education profession in 2009, after working for Point Isabel ISD for thirty years, the last twenty years as a counselor. She coordinated annual Fire Safety, Veterans’ Day, Marine Toy for Tots, and Child Abuse Prevention programs.
Through the years she taught student religious education, volunteering as a catechist in the various communities where she and her family resided. Her husband, Rafael, was a Eucharistic Minster and she was a Lector for the church. She and Rafael were marriage coordinators for the Family Christian Movement at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Port Isabel, Texas for ten years. Maria Adela was firm in her Catholic faith and spent many hours in daily prayer. She was kind, caring and benevolent to church, family, and friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother.
A memorial service will be held at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive in Austin, Texas. Visitation will begin at 5:00pm, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00pm on Sunday, January 16, 2022. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Monday the 17, 2022. Entombment ceremonies will be held at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, Texas at the Chapel Mausoleum.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Hinojosa, David Castro, Ruben Castro, Bob Castro, Albert Avila and Robert Brian. In in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:
