Maria R. Rodriguez, age 90, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Christmas day. She was known as “Grandma”, as she adopted everyone into her heart. She was “YahYah” to her great grandchildren.
Maria was born on November 22, 1929 in Creedmoor, Texas to Martin and Antonia Rodela. She married Antonio Rodriguez on January 10, 1953. They had two children, a daughter and a son. She worked at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel, Seton Hospital, Jack Brown Cleaners, and Del Valle ISD. She was an active member at the San Francisco Javier Catholic Church. She loved to knit and work with beads to create beautiful jewelry. She loved music and dancing. She loved her family and friends unconditionally. She committed herself to her husband’s dying wish to take care of the grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Antonio; brothers, Pablo Rodela, Elias Rodela, Selso Rodela and Gilbert Rodela; and sisters, Andrea Avalos, Lena Flores and Juliana Rodela.
She is survived by daughter, Sylvia Lucio and husband, John Albert Lucio; son, Adam (Gator) Rodriguez Sr. and mother of his children, Linda Rodriguez; grandchildren, Sandy Riojas, Jasent Rodriguez, Mark Rodriguez, Adam Rodriguez Jr., and Stephanie Rodriguez; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also had a great love for her grandpets, Billy, Zena, Cassie and her beloved Zulu.
Pallbearers will be Jasent Rodriguez Sr., Mark Rodriguez, Adam Rodriguez Jr., Jayden Sepeda, Nicholas Riojas and David Rodela.
Special thank you to daughter-in-law, Linda Rodriguez, and her niece, Terri Rodela, in helping with her care. Another special thank you to Travis County Constable George Morales of Precinct 4 for providing their services.
Rosary will be held Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Avenue, Austin, TX.
Services are Monday, December 30, 2019 at 10:00 am at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue, Austin, TX.
Burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S. Interstate 35, Austin, TX.
